Research on Waste Resource Energy Through Public-Private Collaboration

▷ National Institute of Environmental Research and SK ecoplant sign research cooperation agreement in fields of waste energy recovery and carbon neutrality implementation


The National Institute of Environmental Research (NIER, President Kum Hanseung) under the Ministry of Environment announced that it will sign a business agreement for research cooperation on waste resource energy with SK ecoplant (CEO Kim Hyung-keun) on July 24 at SK ecoplant located in Jongno-gu, Seoul. 


This agreement was established to conduct policy research related to waste resource energy and to develop facility operation techniques based on new technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) incinerators. In addition, it aims to create an organic cooperative relationship by sharing information on core technologies and policy areas to build the latest data in the field of waste resource energy research.


The main contents of the business agreement include cooperation in the exchange of human resources between institutions, joint research and information sharing in the field of carbon neutrality implementation, and data construction for the realization of resource recovery and energy recovery from waste.


NIER President Kum Hanseung stated, “Through this agreement, we will strive to combine the research expertise and human resources of both the public and private sectors to achieve tangible results in the areas of waste energy recovery and carbon neutrality.”
